You can create your own bathroom decorations by carving various shapes out of soap bars. Soap carving is fun , easy and less dangerous than wood carving. The results can be displayed or used as soap. First, you need to buy a few soap bars of different colours. Larger soap bars are easier to hold and give more material to work with. Next, think of some simple designs that will be easy to carve. The shapes of turtle and a fish are frequent choices as they are quite similar to the shape of most soap bars. One you have decided on the shape, sketch the outline on the soap bar with a needle. The next step is to start carving. Hold the soap bar in your left hand and the knife in your right hand. Do the reverse if you are left-handed. Soap is fairly soft, so a sharp knife is usually not needed. Plastic knives, spoons or lollipop stick also work . Have a feel of the knife as you start carving. This will tell you how thick a layer you can take off at a time. Gradually shave off the layers of soap outside the outline until you get the shape you want. Once you have the shape cut out, use the needle to add detail to the inside of the outline . Place all the carved soap bars in a basket and display them in your bathroom |
